Hello and welcome to our web site! For our Boston research project, we are researching how MIT, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has influenced Boston, America and the world through its numerous and important inventions, innovations and theories, from developing the first computer game to helping launch the Apollo rocket to the moon.
Coming into this project, we knew that MIT was a reputable and influential college. However, we had no idea that it had developed so many inventions that are now commonplace in many of our lives today.
The group is composed of Mihir K. Vincent H. Andy S. Eshwar M. We are in the Eighth Grade Math Science and Computer Science Program.

Some of their inventions in which they did or contributed to include:
GPS (yeah, that’s right)
Apollo Missions (like the famous Apollo 11)
The first computer game called Spacewar! (video games, including console games which developed from computer games, are now so popular that the highly anticipated video game, Modern Warfare 2, sold the most copies in the first week than any other entertainment product, INCLUDING movies, books, etc., in recorded history).
The Modern Analog Computer (which led to computers, an invention that can be found in pretty much every well-off home)
E ink
E ink is a special type of electronic paper and ink developed by E Ink Corporation, which was founded in 1997 based on research started at the Media Lab in MIT. This allows for electronic books and text that you can hold in your hands.
Artificial Skin
Made by Ioannis Yannis in 1959, artificial skin allowed for the replacement of damaged human skin.
- As of 2006, MIT ranked 1st in the world for the second year in a row for its contributions to the world (World Wide Wide, GPS, Doppler Radar, Apollo Missions, etc.)
- As of 2006, MIT ranked 7th in the nation as the top school overall
- As of 2007, MIT’s undergraduate engineering program was (and was for quite a while back) ranked 1st in the nation.
